Soldier Costumes

Parent contact for soldiers: Katie Fuqua, 668-4794 (home) or 681-7810 (cell).

You need to supply:
1. pink ballet shoes
2. pink tights (Only foot and ankle show, so runs higher up are ok!)
3. white long-sleeved turtleneck shirt (If you don't have one, there are a few available to be borrowed. Ask at the next rehearsal.)
4. light-colored (e.g., pink or beige) leotard to wear under the costume, so that costume can be put on and taken off without tying up the restrooms

Rest of costume is provided:
hat
sword
vest and belt
white leggings

There will be a costume fee of $25 per child (a flat fee, regardless of how many parts the child dances) that covers purchase, repair, and cleaning of the costumes. Make check payable to Hanneke Lohse, and give it to Scherezada Moreno.

Dressing for the performance:
Hair should be in a bun on top of the head, where the hat will cover it. The hat won't fit if the bun is too far back on the head. (Dancers who change to Flower can use the same bun for Soldier. Just make sure the bun is on the high end of the Flower range, and check that the Soldier hat fits over it.) Use a hairnet to make sure that dancing doesn't shake the bun loose. This picture shows a great bun position; an inch or so farther back will also work. In this case the hair was braided before being wrapped into the bun, but that isn't necessary.

NO JEWELRY. Remove watches, bracelets, necklaces, and earrings. Even small metal earrings glitter distractingly in the stage lights. Worse, if an earring should fall out onstage, a pointe dancer could injure herself by slipping on one of the pieces.
Some parents bring food that all the children can share backstage, mainly healthful snacks like bagels or fresh fruits and vegetables. If you want to send something, either for your child or to share, make sure to avoid anything that stains. Chocolate, nuts, and anything sugar-coated are absolutely not allowed: chocolate stains, some of the dancers are very allergic to tree nuts, and sugar crystals can stick to costumes and glitter.
Soldiers go onstage midway through the first act. Please drop off your child by 45 minutes before the show starts.
If your child is sick on the day of the performance, contact Katie or Rena Zieve (219-8155) as soon as possible.
