Research Experience for Undergraduates Program
UC Davis Physics Department
June 15 to August 22, 2008

Application Information

The 2008 REU program is now full. Thank you for your interest in the UC Davis Physics Department.

Application Submission Deadline: applications will be considered as they are received, beginning February 15, 2008. There is no firm deadline, but we strongly recommend that you complete your application before March 1, 2008.

Your complete REU application must also include two letters of recommendation, preferably from Math and/or Science faculty at your institution, and a transcript including Fall 2007 grades. An unofficial transcript is acceptable as long as it contains all the information on the official version. We prefer that all materials, including letters and transcript, be submitted electronically. Once you complete the initial application there will be instructions on uploading a transcript; you can also use e-mail.

Our online application is now available.

Before beginning the application:

  • Get consent from two people who will write letters of recommendation, and have their e-mail addresses on hand. (Our system will send them instructions for submitting their letters.) You may use three letters if you prefer.
  • Look over the project descriptions and think about your preferences among them.
  • Write a brief essay on your educational and career goals, and how the REU will help you.

Current UC Davis Undergraduates:

(The following applies only to students enrolled at UCD during the 2007-08 school year.) Many Davis students do research with our faculty, both during the school year and in the summer. Generally faculty mentors pay these undergraduates from their own research budgets, but in special circumstances the REU program may help with summer support. To get involved in research, UC Davis students should speak directly to the faculty members they hope to work with. UCD students doing summer research in the physics department are more than welcome to participate in all REU activities, including field trips, seminars, weekly lunches, and presentations; just let Professor Zieve know you are interested. We also encourage Davis students to apply to other REU sites which offer research projects and environments not available at UCD.
